After 10 years of research, Laguna Beach, CA Doctor Gregg Homer is only a few years away from bringing a new laser surgery to the public. What type of surgery? Will it prevent skin cancer? Can it cure disease? Not Exactly. The new technology can permanently change your eye color. Dr. Homer says he’s found a way to remove the brown pigment on top to reveal your secret blue eyes underneath. According to Dr. Homer everyone has blue eyes. He explains, “We use a laser, and it’s tuned to a specific frequency to remove the pigment from the surface of the iris.”
Hmm, OK Doc…So, you’re saying I can have eyes like Giselle under my hideous brown-y/hazel-y eyes. My sub-par color can be changed? Cool, I didn’t know I wanted blue eyes.
If I was seriously considering this surgery, I would be interested in an interview ABC Action News had with a New York doctor. ABC News reported, “Surgeon Conswalla Shavers, says the procedure is not only medically dangerous, but there’s no way to guarantee that it will result in a set of baby blue peepers. “What’s to ensure there’s definitely blue pigment underneath? You could remove brown pigmentation and there’s just more brown pigmentation underneath,” she said.”
The price set to change the windows to your soul is around $5,000 when the FDA green lights the laser treatment (expected to be approved in 3 years). Dr. Homer says, “You won’t feel anything. Your eyes will get a little darker for the first week. Then in two to four weeks, they’ll be completely changed.” Claiming the whole process should take about 20 seconds out of your busy lives.
Will this be the next boob job? Setting aside how potentially dangerous this could be, imagine if we could change everything about ourselves to what we precieve to be the “perfect me.” People with lighter skin could have darker and reverse, guys can have abnormally huge biceps, girls can all be waif models with a double D’s, and we can all gain or loose length in gangling arms and stubby legs. What a freakish world that could be if left to us.
I find this just as weird and terrifying as the parfume pill but how do you feel? Do you think this is another one of sciences miracles or another unnecessary surgery?
