Highlight A Matte Look
Use a highlighter to add dimension to a flat matte look.
Spring is around the corner which means the heat of summer isn’t far behind. Therefore, applying powder will inevitably become more frequent because of increased sweat and perspiration. Naturally powder creates a matte finish, so how do you still achieve dimension to a flat matte look? Highlighter.
Makeup guru, Francois Nars, gave away some of his backstage beauty secrets last August to Glamour magazine. One of which included adding highlights to a matte look.
Nars states, “Keep a matte look from becoming too flat by adding shimmery highlight on cheekbones and eyes or lips.”
Lips? Like lipgloss? I suppose lipgloss could be one way to add shimmer. However, after a bit of makeup technique research, I discovered adding a bit of highlighter to the cupids bow at the edge of the center top lip was common when contouring.
After you apply your base of foundation and concealer is a good time to add the shimmery highlighter. Next, set your base with powder but be careful not to over powder the highlighted areas. Viola, highlight a matte look.
